More often than not I have breakfast alone. Around seven I sit at a small marble table placed in the curve of theliving room window, eat and look out. Facing west, I look across town, over buildings and rooftops, up to a small village nestled in a dense growth of chestnut treeshigh up on the mountain where people often go to convalesce. Facing north, I look inland onto another small village, beyond which a larger mountain reaches up above tree-level. Facing south, I can see across the lake to the far side of town and onto where, further round the bay, a steep, hub-shaped mountain rises abruptly, one side thick with forest, the other side a sheer granite drop.
